Fear

I cringe and cry out
I am loathsome
Even unto myself
My powerlessness call out
To summon the predators
My weakness
Is their strength
They feed on my helplessness
I cower before them
They cannot stand me
Yet they need me to be me
To beat me as a dog
To drive me down
A subject to their rage
And will to do harm
My panic sends them into a frenzy
A victim for their will
I take all they have to offer
My mirror filled with shame
My face a mask of dread
I cannot face it
I cannot face myself
Excuses coat my tongue
I close my ears
And shut my eyes
I must hide away
Both day and night
